Peregrino

(Pilgrim)

11 x 14 Original acrylic  on canvas.

What does one who journeys in a foreign land find traveling back to her native country? The place of her birth or of her end? Perhaps she is searching for her destiny. Perhaps her destiny is to search.

Hora, a su afán ansioso lisonjera;

Su cuerpo dejará, no su cuidado;
Serán ceniza, mas tendrá sentido;
Polvo serán, mas polvo enamorado.

LOVE CONSTANT BEYOND DEATH

Francisco de Quevedo y Villegas

Perhaps whatever final shadow that
the shining day may bring could close my eyes,
and this my soul may well be set aflight
by time responding to its longing sighs;

but it will not, there on the farther shore
its memory leave behind, where once it burned:
my flame the icy current yet can swim,
and so severe a law can surely spurn.

Soul by no less than a god confined,
veins that such a blazing fire have fueled,
marrow to its glorious flames consigned:

the body will abandon, not its woes;
will soon be ash, but ash that is aware;
dust will be, but dust in love.

DITAT DEUS

On September 17, 2011, in Art Works, by admin

At first glance the southwest landscape is barren thorns and dry brush, especially during the winter months when everything is dormant. The monsoon season changes all of this with an explosion of color from the ground to the sky, awakening flowers, butterflies, migrating birds and amazing sunsets. This delicate ecosystem is precious and delicate, deeply connected to the earth with roots that allow it to survive the cold winters and the heat of the summer. Ditat Deus is Arizona’s motto meaning “God Enriches”  in Latin.

Pablo Neruda

Migración

(fragmento)

No vi sino el camino.

Todo siguió celeste.

Pero en la muchedumbre de las aves
rectas a su destino
una bandada y otra dibujaban
victorias
triangulares
volaba

Pablo Neruda

Migration

(excerpt)

I saw only the flyway.

All remained celestial.

But among the throngs of birds

homing for their destination

flock after flock sketched out

triangular

victories

united by the voice of a single flight,

by the unity of fire,

by blood,

by thirst, by hunger,

by the cold,

by the precarious day that wept

before being swallowed by night,

by the erotic urgency of life:

the unity of birds

flew

Elvis and Priscilla

This couple has been living near our home for nearly two years, raising a family and avoiding the pitfalls of living on the northern edge of the Sonora Desert and eating any produce we try and grow except the oregano. While unable to send them to you in person, with this painting you have the chance for a little bit of nature in your home, fresh from the edge of Hereford, Arizona. 18 x 24 Acrylic, Gallery Wrap Canvas, ready to hang.
